Congratulations to our November Aide of the Month, Millie Jones! Millie received her Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) training through Family & Children’s Service and has been with the agency since January 2018. Prior to working at FCS Millie worked in the food service industry. When asked what inspired Millie to become a CHHA she explained that someone once told her “Millie you’re a good person, you should try becoming a home health aide.” Millie’s daughter and sister also work in the home care field, and after giving it some consideration she decided to go for it. “I like helping people.” Millie said ““I love babies and elders, and I have a mother and I would want somebody to keep my mother nice too.”

All of FCS’s CHHAs must successfully complete 76 hours of specialized training, pass a competency evaluation and undergo a criminal background check before becoming certified and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. CHHAs work under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse and must undergo training in personal care skills, including bathing, dressing, shopping, meal preparation, Range of Motion assistance and a variety of other tasks.

Millie described what she does for her clients on a typical day, “Everything I do for them is important.” She says, aware that without her help some of her clients who have a difficult time managing day to day tasks. “They get confused and sometimes they forget things. That’s something people need to realize. One day they might be this way and the next day they might be another way. You have to take it day by day.”

Millie was chosen to be Aide of the Month because of the compassion and understanding she shows her clients. “My clients and I all get along. I don’t know, maybe I just have that special touch.” She says smiling. “I look forward to seeing my clients every morning and they’re happy to see me too. Were like family. If there is a problem, we work it out like I would with my mother.”

When Millie was asked what she would tell someone else considering becoming a CHHA she said “I’m really happy here and I love everyone in the Home Care Department. I’m really glad I’m here.”

We are glad you are here too, Millie. Thank you for your dedication to FCS and congratulations on being named Aide of the Month!
