Volunteers Sought for Family & Children’s Service’s Thrift Boutique

Long Branch, NJ, January 11, 2012 Family & Children’s Service (FCS), Monmouth County’s oldest non-profit social service agency, is seeking volunteers for its popular Thrift Boutique in Long Branch. The trendy resale shop, now in its fourth year at its current location at 307 Branchport Avenue, offers quality men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories along with housewares, linens and small furniture items at deeply discounted prices. Proceeds from the store’s sales go directly to fund FCS’s dozen programs and services.

Thrift Boutique manager Christine Misita says volunteers are the key to running a successful thrift store business. “To help keep operating costs down, our volunteers do everything, from unpacking and unloading the boxes of donated items, to pricing and displaying new merchandise,” Chris says. “It’s a great place to gain retail experience, meet new friends and make a difference in the community.”

Tinton Falls resident Lynne Martocci is one of several regular volunteers at the store. A retired high school teacher, Lynne says working at the Thrift Boutique is a natural extension of what she likes to do. "I enjoy meting the people who shop here, the clothing is fun, and the staff is so appreciative of everything I do,” Lynne says.

There are many benefits derived from volunteering at the Thrift Boutique.  Volunteers can set their hours according to their own schedules, working just a few hours a month, or several times a week. They can volunteer alone, or with a group of friends, and they receive special discounts on in-store purchases. Previous retail experience is not necessary; however, all volunteers must complete a volunteer application.

The Thrift Boutique is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.  Donations of new and gently used men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories, linens and household items can be brought to the store during regular business hours. A complete list of items the store accepts and does not accept can be found on the agency’s website at www.fcsmonmouth,.org or on its Facebook page,
